Following on from collaborative research between the University of East Anglia and one of the UK’s largest water companies, Syrinix’s expertise lies in developing world-leading water infrastructure monitoring technology.

Syrinix is based at the Hethel Engineering Centre on the southern outskirts of Norwich in the UK, a custom-built and world class hub for specialist engineering and technology companies.
Combining technical expertise with analytical excellence, the multi-award-winning Syrinix is focused on developing new, intelligent monitoring and data services in transformative applications to help clients:

  • plan, operate, maintain and manage pipeline networks more efficiently
  • work from real-time, high quality information to reduce catastrophic failures and improve maintenance and durability

Thanks to developments by Syrinix, asset operators such as water companies are now in a position to use data that enables them to take decisions based upon real time information rather than assumptions.

Syrinix’s TrunkMinder service utilises a combination of sensors permanently attached to pipelines, including a hydrophone, geophone, pressure sensor and optional flow monitor. Continuous 24/7 monitoring, data acquisition, interrogation and intelligent analysis provides clients with the confidence required to identify very small leaks very accurately, and then deal with them in a planned and proactive manner. TrunkMinder also provides a robust risk mitigation measure which provides evidence for UK regulatory reporting as well as confidence to asset insurers.

Syrinix’s TransientMinder service is focussed upon the detection and identification of pressure transients within a network of pipes which enables clients to immediately detect and remedy the causes.  Units can be either permanently installed or used as a “lift and shift” survey tool. TransientMinder also provides clients with the ability to understand the impact on pipelines of various operational activities, such as valve closures, which are often the cause of damaging transients.

With TrunkMinder in commercial use in the UK, and with TransientMinder in the final stages of field trials, Syrinix is now expanding internationally, with the same aim of helping clients to reduce water loss and improve their asset management and planning.
