Syrinix wins National Clean Tech award for innovative water leakage solution

TrunkMinder recognised by British Business Angels Association (BBAA)

Syrinix today announced that it has been awarded the prestigious 2011 Clean Tech
Investment of the Year Award by the BBAA, the Government‐backed national trade
association which promotes and supports early‐stage industries and investment in the UK.
The award recognises innovative and successful new businesses in the environmental
sector.

Receiving the award, Chief Executive James Dunning said,

"We are delighted to win this prestigious award. We have terrific support from our investors
and, with investment secured, everyone at Syrinix is firmly focused on accelerating the
company's growth. Securing this award from the BBAA is terrific recognition of our success
to date and the important role we play in saving water through effective trunk main
monitoring."

The award was won by Syrinix for its TrunkMinder product ‐ an automatic, continuous
monitoring system for water mains which enables the early identification of leaks and the
prevention of burst trunk mains. The system, already in use in a major UK city, captures realtime operational data and intelligently interrogates it to pinpoint leaks to within one metre,
allowing for fast, cost‐effective utility response, risk mitigation and enhanced asset
management.

The BBAA judging panel commented,

“Syrinix impressed the Judges with their approach to the water market and the fact they are
already securing orders. With advances in technology — sophisticated sensor networks,
smart metering and analytics, Syrinix enables water companies to be smarter about how
they manage mains supplies and prevent leakages. Syrinix is a viable business in a growth
market.”

Syrinix, based in Norwich, was originally spun out from the University of East Anglia and has
developed its TrunkMinder product in conjunction with a major UK water utility. The
company is now a leading expert in infrastructure management technology for the water
sector.

Speaking about the success of TrunkMinder, James Dunning commented,

“With water resource availability high in everyone’s minds as a result of the changing
climate and in particular, the extremely dry spring we have just experienced, we are proud
that TrunkMinder provides an affordable, easy to adopt way of reducing water leakage.
Prolonging asset life will also help water companies to keep bills down and meet regulatory
targets.”
